You can't beat my Windows XP tablet.

After I received a windows convertible laptop with wacom pen. I kept longing for a pen-based input on Mac, like most things in my life by the time I can afford something they don't make it anymore. so I was thinking convertible Toshiba Toughbook hackintosh but that's even more out of my price range. So I just settle for VNC access and now that I have a new iPad with pencil sidecar is pretty cool. the wacom pen tech was pretty cool for the time and still is as it mimics physical drawing with a slightly less abrasive surface.

Given the guts of the Apple Silicon DTK, I’m sure Apple already had an iPad Pro running macOS adequately (with all the UI & UX tweaks lifted from the ModBook via an Apple Pencil), given that Apple seems to loathe the idea of a touchscreen laptop an obvious intermediate device between the iPad & MacBook would be some kind of “MacPad” - kinda like an “Apple Surface”, but with better mobile app support than the Microsoft offering - basically an iPad Pro with an M1 in the place of the current A12Z (& probably a second USB-C port).

My only takeaway: “This thing is getting hot.” “Mind if I feel it?”

that's something anyone could self integrate in any laptop (with more or less effort depending on the model); a REAL laptop is already integrated all in one, with componentes greatly customized to occupy the least physical space possible; thus u dont have a regular brick battery in a table/cell phone, no regular mechanical/SATA disks, etc

I was on the buyers interest list for some years back in the day, got the reminder emails and so on. never got to the point to squeeze out the money worth of 2 (two) Macbooks...

A thing to explore is what other drawing tablets were available back in the day as a comparison. This would also have the fully functionality of a mac on top of being an artist tablet. I can see where they were going with this. I mean something like a WACOM tablet mid range tablet was 2000 dollars and you had to adjust to fact the glass was like a fraction of a millimeter off from the touch surface and you would still need to sync it to a computer. I mean this seems like it would have been neat to be able to take it with you to do some work on the go for a 2012 device.

Does this model have a CCFL backlight? that would explain the brightness and heat on the bezels.

The display is darker because they grafted that touch-panel onto the MacBook's display. Or, they replaced the display with a poor quality display that is not nearly as bright as the original MacBook display.

Honestly this is great that you have this for the UK viewers. Im in the US, but we get giveaways all the time. love that you're doing this though

I think I remember seeing one of these back in my elementary school but I was like years ago and I wasn’t able to see how it performed either but I think it actually had some sort of blue shell I can’t remember but I do remember it was running on Mac OS X

By using ARM on Mac I believe that one day that iPad and Macbook will converge into these kind of computer. All it needed is just a powerful but efficient SoCs so I guess finally we may have the official Modbook soon
