What is OpenCore Computer? (Illegal Hackintosh Vendor?) - Krazy Ken's Tech Talk

Sains & Teknologi

What is OpenCore Computer? In short, they sell commercial Hackintoshes, which falls into an area of questionable legality. Psystar did something like this, too, before Apple shut them down. Today, we'll talk about this new "company" and we'll time-travel back to Apple's official Macintosh clone program.

considering the fact that MS Win10 (A to B to C to D to E to F ... and eventually to Z) now operates on a different set of revenue streams, maybe it is time Apple did something a little different. If they really think their OS is the dogs bollocks (and shit loads better) then they SHOULD give it away, Don't forget macOS is in the same OS family as UNIX and runs on ARM64 and x86-64, would it be that hard for them to do cut down versions that runs on newer laptops? Hell why not do a macOS that runs on the Raspberry Pi? Come on Apple give something back!!!!

When Steve Handjobs said a fair price but never specified the actual price, he did that for a reason, because he knew that if he did everyone would have jeered him offstage.

Reminds me of another history concerning "clones", back in the day a certain company sterted selling computers, they even got a deal with a little outside company to provide an opperative system, things where OK and they became an standar on computer manufacturing. Then other groups tarted selling "clones" or "compatible computers", the software company started selling their OS to the open market, so many, many clones began to flow, even particular uses got the chance to eventually build their own personal computers (unthinkable!) The original company went down, yes, but the software company went way up, even acounting the many, many cases of users installing pirate versions of their software. The cloning of IBM's Personal Computer generated the diversity of today's PC community, with people and companies building PC's of tremendous differences in price and capabilities, want something cheap just for browsing and doing homework? Want a giantic monster to perform 2D and 3d rendering? Want a full throttled gaming rig with all the bells and whistles? You can have any of these without having to wait for a company to make it, even if your interests and requeriments are so niched and particular that no company would benefit for developing that particular PC, and that for me is called progress, or if you want to be more poetic, evolution.

Apple or crApple as I refer to the company is the biggest rip off scheme ever. You pay $2500 for a laptop that has a windows equivalent available for $1000 or sometimes even less. They don't innovate and any innovation they do make seems to hurt the consumer and they wind up backpedaling, switching to something completely different, and stealing ideas and designs from other companies of witch crApple is notorious for doing. Does anyone recall the disastrous keyboard debacle that crApple got themselves into? How about any of the other terrible decisions they decided to make that left the consumer with a very expensive paper weight and on the few things they admitted fault to it took them years to fix those issues making those computers obsolete by the time they got around to offering free repairs? The thing that really drove me crazy about this crappy company is their Crap Pro (Mac Pro) lines of computers. You could configure a crazy workstations for $20,000 yet the parts inside from Newegg, Amazon, or other electronics retailers would run you a mere $7,000-$8,000 thus making the cost of CrapOS (MacOS) more than $12,000. What exactly are you getting for from paying $12,000 for an operating system when you could do the same things and use a majority of the same programs for free on Linux or for about $100 for a Windows license? Don't get me started on repair... One cheap little $2 component fails on a laptop or all-in-one circuit board and the only method of repairing it within crApple is to replace the entire motherboard for about 75% the original cost of the computer and on top of paying $1500+ for a new motherboard you will always lose all of your data. Luckily there are people like Louis Rossmann with Rossmann Repair Group who can fix your laptop or AIO for a reasonable price but the problem is the majority of crApple's consumers don't know that there is an option for component level repair and they think the only place they can resolve their issue is at a Idoit-Bar (Genius-Bar). I'll end this with only one more thing as I know this has gotten pretty long but this last thing really shows how bad this company is and why they just want consumers to throw out their two year old computer and buy a new one even though that two year old computer is still relevant to most and does everything that person needs. On some of their laptops there are $5 chips that go bad and to fix this chip it would cost about $125 from a repair shop but the problem is that crApple has forced the manufacturers of some computer chips and other components to not sell these chips to anyone but crApple. This means even though you have a problem that would be relatively cheap and easy to fix, computer repair shops now have to find these $2-$5 chips from unrepeatable sources or they have to buy broken boards for hundreds of dollars in a hope that this one chip is still good even though that one chip seems to be the problem on 30-40% of board failures. That means instead of paying $125 for a repair you're now paying $450-$600 or sometimes even more but it is still cheaper than the $1500+ crApple will charge to replace the motherboard and you loose your data because it's easier for them to swap the board with a wiped hard drive and send the broken boards to third party repair facilities or recycling companies. The people that get suckered into buying $1500 motherboards from crApple actually get refurbished boards, they don't get to keep their old board, and then crApple tries to repair their old board so they can sell it to some other shmuck for $1500. The following statement is 100% true: Apple does not care about the consumer or the consumer's needs. The only thing Apple truly cares about is taking as much money from the consumer as possible. If your device fails and you bring it to an Apple store they tell you it's really expensive to fix and it's not worth it and you should just buy new. They use predatory sales tactics to convince consumers to buy new products even if their computer can be fixed easily and cheaply.

I think the best thing for open computers to do is sell bare bones computers with windows/Linux/non Mac hardware that so happens to be compatible with Mac OS and plead ignirence to the fact that people are using them as Macs, with the compatibility information as a customer question and answer from “externally” as I’m sure that is likely covered under that bit of law that gives website providers some level of immunity over what people post to the site. they already seem to be far under the table so what is going a little further under it.

Ive set up a few systems over the years.. if youre going to build a hackintosh... DONT USE AMD CPUs!!!! MacOS (before current gen) was designed with Intel CPUs in mind, yes you can run AMD GPUs as Apple has been using those for a while since they stopped dealing with Nvidia. But AMD Hack builds take WAY more time to configure just to get MacOS to load right.... and updating them is a bitc# and a half.... And the Mac Clone program failed mostly due to finances (as you said) but also system 7 was utter garbage.. even on true Mac systems.. buggy, super slow even on the best of hardware at the time, total resource hog from hell, and most apps made for previous versions of Mac System software just wouldnt work right..

the only reason they would possibly "go broke" is if the vendors machines were BETTER than Apples... Otherwise it makes no sense, apple would still make the same money selling their own hardware while scraping up money for "nothing" letting other vendors worry about selling their own hardware. We all know this works because this is Microsofts model RIGHT NOW and has been since the beginning, in fact they didn't really ever push hardware until recent years, and still made a lot of money. Ultimately Apple isa greedy, Nazi like regime where they want to cripple everyone with extortionate prices, disregard their customers by making their devices break "on demand", be as un-fixible as possible by third-party repair centers which in turn kills off good small businesses, kills off competition, costs the end user more, creates insane amounts of e-waste and more. It's criminal.

Right to repair anti legislation. And yeah blatantly stealing everything they deserve to get shut down. There is a bit of a if they can't get it shut down they can make it so you can't purchase from them easily I know that this is a tactic used with PayPal to prevent purchase of things that people don't want you to purchase namely a DVD ripping archiving software and the like. • Ben Hinman

While i understand where apple is coming from suing the bejeezus out of anyone who tries to sell hackintoshes, i do think that its kind of unfair that hackintosh is limited to those with the in depth expertise to pull it off... i myself have done it twice, and it was EXTREMELY difficult... and i am basically a computer expert compared to the layman... hell, even compared to fellow techies. What i do hope will happen is that the open source community builds a repository of information that helps streamline the process... Like jailbreaking and homebrew PSPs before it, eventually we get to a plug and play 1 click solution that auto detects what hardware you are using and configures the hack specifically for it. Unfortunately, getting to that solution is going to be a hell of a lot harder than either of those homebrew hack communities.... Because computer tech is a much much, incredibly wider landscape that is constantly evolving. At the end of the day, people want a solution that lets them use mac os x but doesn't require a hefty price tag WITHOUT the prerequisite of being a computer genius who knows the hidden depths of an operating system... and if apple can't or won't make that happen, then if history has shown us anything, a tight knit group of volunteers WILL... and they will have to pay the piper for not finding a way to monetize it properly. If jailbreaking has shown us anything, you can't just sue vast swathes of consumers who use your software in "ways it wasn't intended".
