btw. these small solar panels are only capable of 100-300 mA. It more for keeping a full charge when not in use as example: Your cars dashboard. there are better products but not bad for the price :)

Now no expert but I would imagine that small of a solar panel can't put out enough juice to bring it above that due to like resistances and heating is what I would imagine it's probably some thermodynamic law I would guess again blowing smoke up my butt right now but that's what I would say

The solar charging is probably being thermally cutoff by the BMS. Putting it in the sun most likely heats that power bank above the cutoff temperature.

Single solar cell assembly probably doesn't put out enough voltage to charge the pack. Could put a DVOM on the panel and see what it is actually putting out.

  • David Cote

OK, solar is great! IF you have a clue what to expect from it. Big solar panels can't give you much power, and they are 100x larger. It doesn't take an engineering degree to figure out a "pop-tart" sized solar panel will take forever to charge a 20,000mah battery, if ever. All that aside, watch out for "grandiose" claims from any company selling anything.

At one time, I bought another power brick with solar on it -- more because it had the capacity I wanted AAANNNnnndd just happened to come with solar. I'm an EE and have worked with solar tech before - so immediately I questioned the efficacy to charge the unit (it had a 10Ah Li battery) anything more than a trickle to top it off. Yea. The solar worked. I think the panel ended up providing something like 250mA worth of current to the charger (and thus, some fraction to the battery) Yea. That would take a long time to charge. So I never used it really. But here's the thing that everyone forgets --- DON'T LEAVE A LITHIUM BATTERY SITTING IN THE SUN! It will get cooked. (a couple friends borrowed it and when returning it - left it in the sun to charge and I hadn't warned them yet the perils of overheated lithium batteries) At this point in my life, I don't get ANY lithium battery banks with solar on it -- just to avoid the potential misuse.

The real benefit of the integrated solar panel, is to act like a trickle charger maintaining the charge of a fully charged device when sitting around. Not to recharge the device from depleted status.

Hmmmm, 20,000 mah at 3.6v is about 72 wh. Sounds about right. With 10w max charging, that gives us 7.2 hours. Losses and ramping up/down gives us about 9-10 hours or about what you showed. Absolutely no way that solar panel provides 10w continuous or I'd line my roof with them and power my kiln.

I've always viewed the battery packs with integrated solar cells as an emergency feature. Ie. You need a charge and your battery pack is dead but you have a solar cell so you can let it sit in the sun for a bit. That its now being touted as the main way of charging is... suspect.

  • Simply Wonderful

What's it look like inside? For solar, and it's doubtful this thing can charge, but you'll need to angle it towards the sun. Laying it flat gives very low percentage charge rate on an already weak solar panel

I carried a very similar power bank while hiking on the Appalachian Trail, and even with a week or more outdoors never got a solar charge over 25%, from what I've read, the kind of cheap solar panels on a battery pack like this would never generate sufficient charge for something like this

Just another dropship scammer. They find a cheap product on Alibaba, copy all the pictures, and make their own ads to post to Facebook. They charge 3-10 times the price listed on Alibaba. They even put a fake "Limited Time Sale!" to encourage panic buying. Of course the product is never not on sale. When they get an order, they just turn around and place an order themselves on Alibaba with shipping set to deliver the item directly to the customer. They just pocket the cash difference. That is if they bother to have a product sent to the customer at all. You see these ads all over social media. These guys never have any actual product or inventory of their own, they just take advantage of the fact that the average Facebook buyer won't know to check elsewhere for pricing.

Reminds me of my nice, she signed up for internet and VOIP for $49.95 per month, I told her nice, it is for the first three months, she argued with me that no, it was $49.95 per month. I knew it was for the first three months because the TV ad and the print ad showed right under the $49.95 figure, "For the first three months", people just don't read past what they want to see. I found out later that she cancelled it after the forth month.

Not trying to back this thing up at all but solar panels catch a lot more rays when pointed at an angle towards the sun one laying flat and one at a 45° degree angle will have different power outputs (the one at a 45° angle pointed towards the sun being more) but I’m sure none of this matters and the thing still is just crap

I once got me a similar device four years ago, via Amazon in Germany for 23 Euros. It was a 15000mAh solar power bank from GrandBeing, which is no longer available. My power bank will fully charge with sunlight, but requires 2-3 days depending on the weather. It is not the best device in the world, but while I was traveling a lot with local commute, it helped when I forgot to charge my phone. I still keep it attached to the outside of my backpack. Should it ever break, I will most likely get me another solar power bank.

I think something you could do to test how much that solar panel really charges the device is to drain it completely, to the point it won't charge your phone anymore, then leave it in the sun for a day, after that charge the phone with 0 battery on it and see how far it goes, at least I would love to see that, even if that give me 20% I'll say that's a win

you may want to try draining it down to 75% to test the solar part. lithium batteries has a part of the charge curve where the charging is very difficult and draws a lot of current so you may want to try charging from solar when it is near the upper part of the curve where the charging circuit switches to constant voltage mode and where there is very little energy and it should top off faster.

I'm one of those suckers who bought a $40 litmobil back in November 2019, from a IDdown ad. Unlike apparently a lot of people, I was lucky enough to get my product, pretty fast, and the thing works. I don't take it into the desert or anything, but just keep it by my bed side where I like to wirelessly charge my phone, and once in a rare while I use the light. It works. However, the solar doesn't seem to charge it very much, if at all, and I feel like an idiot for not shopping around and finding the $20 version. Oh well. Thanks for your review and this explains why their website is gone. They're on to the next grift, probably something involving crypto currency.
