This pile of crap was NOT successful, LOL! If you want to talk about successful failures then we’ll talk about the G4 Cube which was the era when I worked at Apple and still have the G4 Cube I built in the factory for myself (Elk Grove, California). I loved that computer but it failed. The Anniversary Mac was pure fail, if it had potential Steve Jobs wouldn’t of thought it was a giant turd and axed it right away when he returned to Apple...

I remember watching Alfred's unboxing of this more than a decade ago. Before that video I had never even heard of this product. Its definitely a fascinating piece of design. The lamp design iteration definitely seemed to be of inspiration to the iMac g4.

So instead of calling it a laptop without battery. They wanted to make something very expensive. I remembered a family sedan base model with automatic transmission and air conditioning made by GM was sold for about $9800 in 1997. 5 years into developing a home computer? Yes, you will need to charge $7500 per unit. Because all those big shots ain't cheap.

Typical of all Apple products. All about form over function. They always went for a "look", rather than make something that was capable of doing everything. Hence why I am still on a PC today. I've been with a PC of some kind since 1990 when I built my first 286/12 system. From then on, it was always about getting as much PERFORMANCE, rather than simply how it looks when it's off. Today I have combined RGB into my aesthetics, but my PC is still a PC, not some flashy Mac.

I purchased a TAM off eBay back around 2011. Mine has the infamous "buzzing" issue because the base unit is acting up. I ended up opening up the base unit and disabling the amplifier and I use external speakers that are hidden so it seems like it's still working properly. Mine also came with the 400MHz Sonnet G3 upgrade card. I've tried putting Mac OS X on it, but haven't had any luck. I put a flash to IDE adapter in and put in a 2GB flash card. I'm dual booting Mac OS 7 and 9 on it. It's a really neat piece of history, but it's certainly not the most reliable (or sturdy, the plastic on the base unit is chipping off) computer ever made.

Back in the days, when you bought one, the had it delivered in a limo and the Chauffeur would bring it into you home and unbox and install it for you. I believe it was an addon on top of the $7500 I think it was 10k in total. Wasn't me it didn't happen. I owned one got it for $1000 CAD and upgraded to a Sonnet G3 250 maxed out ram and internal drive, later replaced the driver with a 128GB SD2SCSI. Fixed the Bose audio issue, a prone flaw with these TAMs. Last I ran OS9forever then installed OSX 10.2.8 It gave me alots enjoyment but also had a lot of other macs to play with .Sadly I sold it 5 years ago to someone in my neighbour who bought it for his dad who had Terminal Cancer..... Well can't say no to a dying man's last wishes. I maybe will try to buy another if I have the time and space, its not about the money, its do I have time to play with my other tech stuff...... I still have mine, I even have the G3 upgrade, I bought it on eBay for $300 in 2003, barely used as it was a demo piece. I use it as a music player for my office as the speaker system still sounds fantastic. Though it isn’t running MacOS but Suse Linux, as I could never, ever, go back to a 16 bit system. Even back in the day I abandoned Apple for SGI because it’s OS was such a piece of shitt, That and my uncle worked for SGI so he always hooked me up with the latest demo machines. I had a Indy, O2, Octane, Fire and a Tezro that I purchased from a University for next to nothing with dual R16000, v12 graphics, 8GB RAM, 2x 640GB 15,000RPM drives, 2x SGI 24” LCD displays, etc. I mean seriously, when you can freeze an entire system by simply holding down the mouse button, well, you know something isn’t right. I can’t believe Apple had the audacity to hold onto Mac OS for as long as it did. The Mac Cube for example, the last system I bought with MacOS 9.2, was simply horrible. I bought it because I had a client who used nothing but Apples, these were the days when universal platformed file extensions didn’t exists. Trying to compile a video while surfing the internet turned out to be the worst computer experience I have ever, ever seen. I mean when a 2001 PDA from Psion, their Netbook, had full multitasking, you knew something wasn’t right at Apple.
