I have a theory about why the keyboard sucked. And I don’t think it’s because they were trying something new I think what they were trying to do was eventually come out with a keyboard that was completely OLED and the travel distance would be really shallow just like the butterfly keyboard keys. I think they were trying to ease people into that. But they didn’t realize that the touch bar was extremely problematic and it completely ruined that strategy

to be honest I have a 2017 MacBook Pro, and I had sticky keys on it but I fixed them, and I don't have any issues with it at all... im using 3rd party hub, so I have currently every port I need and my favorite feature about MacBook Pro is the Touch Bar :D

I'm a long time Microsoft user and new to Apple laptops so I don't want to upgrade from the newly aquired Macbook Pro (Mid 2010.) I have upgraded it with a super fast SSD and doubled the RAM. This thing now flies! I love and use most of the ports. Mag Safe Power, Ethernet socket, Thunderbolt port with HDMI dongle, 2 x USB, SD Card slot and mic/line in and headphone sockets. Plus I have a DVD drive! But to me Apple only wants you to do stuff their way!

What I think the next MacBook (Pro) should have. Apple needs to STOP with the "but look how thin it is now", I'd rather have it 1/4 inch thicker, and USABLE again. Ethernet, SD CARD, 2x 3.0 USB A, 2x USB C, HDMI AND a MUCH LAGRER BATTERY. Maybe put out an Apple DVR player/reader/writer that works with DVD and CD too. People don't all live in a high speed internet area. Updates can take SEVERAL LONG HOURS on DSL or Dial-up..... You want "thin"? Get an iPad

  • Geoff Strickler

For a “Pro” laptop, I consider the following ports to be essential: Ethernet, SD CARD, 2x USB A, 2x USB C/thunderbolt, and HDMI. You can cut the SD CARD and Ethernet for non-Pro models if necessary, but these are the things any Pro model should have at a minimum. With Apple Silicon, there should be plenty of room to include these. I agree with Ken on the Touch Bar, pretty neat idea, but doesn’t really work well in practice. Better to have function keys, and if you want, a touch screen. Personally, I’m not a big fan of touch screen on a laptop. I’ve used some, they’re sometimes useful as an alternative to keyboard and trackpad/mouse, but it’s usually a less convenient method of interacting with the computer, so when I’ve been on laptops with keyboard, touchpad, & touch screen, I only rarely use the touch screen.

I missed this video for several weeks, but I'm glad I finally saw it, and I'm equally glad to hear Apple is backpedaling, well, at all. These changes are actually really cool to hear. It shows that they aren't as far gone as I thought.

Apple is full of egotistical aholes who are only in it to manipulate their products for maximum profit, then throw up there smoke screen of blah blah blah blah blah to keep the sheep coming back of course, I have every piece in their profit line so I have experience with Apple. The only reason Apple is making the changes bringing back the things that they took away is because they’ve determined they’ll sell even more product but you can call anything you want

Believe it or not, MagSafe is a killer feature for me. So much so that I am getting as much life out of my mid-2015 MBP as I can and I am happy to change brands when I have to and go back to using Linux as my main desktop, on any laptop which has a MagSafe-like power connector. MacOS is pretty slick and I would like to stick with it, but present day Linux is no less workable for what I need. I'm typically working out of Linux VM's anyway.

  • Sean Washington
    Sean WashingtonBulan Yang lalu

I'm fine with back pedaling as long as we can keep the 4 thunderbolt ports. I personally find more value in having 4 thunderbolt ports than USB-A or SD-Card Readers, and yes I'm a photographer, so I get the appeal of having an SD port. But I also like having USB-C/Thunderbolt ports to use for Displays, SSDs or anything I else I need. And the dongle problem isn't that big of a deal. I use a very small 8 in 1 connector that gives me those ports if I really need them. If SD card readers and USB-A ports mean 2 less USB-C/Thunderbolt ports, I'll have far less interested in the product.

Apple's reticence to support the right to repair that manifests in using intellectual property rights to outright make their products unrepairable is a major issue especially when the extremely high failure rates are normal. Just ask Louis Rossman about this because he has been addressing this issue for at least 5 years.

I was borrowing my mother's 2018 air, and my dog actually pulled it off of my lap, and onto the floor, damaging the hinge! Rather specific reasonings, but personally, I find the MagSafe charger to be extremely useful.

So, let me be clear about every one of the new rumoured changes... Removal of the touchbar: I like the touchbar! I think it's useful and gives the Mac more ways to customise it. Yes, I don't think it's a necessity but I don't wanna see it go away and return to the old fashion static Fn keys. Return of SD card slot: Yup, I like this one! I'm using sony cameras so it will be very handy to have back the SD card reader! I think it was a bad decision to remove it at first place because there isn't a better alternative to it. Return of USB type A ports: Nope.. Even if it's hard, I totally think that every new device that is coming out nowadays, even if it is a laptop, a phone, a camera an accessory etc it has to use type c! it's so much better, it's the future and only if we (consumers) be forced at first to switch to it, only then it will be the new standard. If a new macbook come out and has type A ports, then less companies will see the need to make their devices/accessories etc usb type c compatible, less consumers will switch to the new standard so we will continue to use the old, badly designed type A ports for the rest of our lifes! Return of the MagSafe: Hmmm... I don't know about that. I liked MagSafe, it was very cool, I liked how easily and effortlessly you just bring the charger near the port and it snaps in it! I also like that it's safer for the laptop preventing it to fall down. But on the other hand, now with type C ports it is so convenient to be able to charge the laptop from any side you want! this way you give less strain to the cable and you gain little more cm of your cable which sometimes as we know, it matters a lot!

My history with Macbooks...my family used to have a "family" Macbook a decade or so ago, that I used to hog. However, the trackpad got cracked and filled with crumbs, which resulted in mould, and...yeah, stopped working. Then my high school gave its students Macbook Airs when I was in Year 10 (2013) or so, which we could keep after graduation. Used that until 2017, when the sound died in the middle of a university semester and I had to get a new laptop. That was, and still is, this Macbook Pro with Touch Bar. Still running alright, so far, though I wouldn't mind a replacement. Oh, and Mum's using a quite old Macbook Pro that's definitely showing its age (has to be constantly plugged in, slowdown), and is still running an old OS version. So...yeah, if I could convince her to replace it, I definitely would.

I don't want USB type A to come back NGL. Part of the problem is that is that if you don't force the change nobody will change. If they start removing USB type A in all laptops from premium which they have started with Windows in the 13 inch lineup and Macbooks. They need to get rid of them from budget laptops as well. This will force the usage rates of USB type C to go up and eventually it will be moot.

I'm not super pissed about usb c. You can just get a USB a to USB C and leave it permanently attached to the end of your device the ones that come with Samsung phones are super tiny and would almost be perfect for this I give that specific adapter a 9 out of 10 cuz it is still just a tiny bit big. The micro USB one that came with my s7 is actually slightly longer. the thing that grinds My gear is that they literally only had one port on the entire laptop and I think hdmi, sd card slot, and headphones are important. While I think ethernet should also be on there it is the least important.

An idea for the touch bar: If the touch bar had a mode where it just resembled the keys on a regular keyboard, and used haptics like on iOS versions before 7, but also allowed the user to switch back to a “touch bar” like interface, it’d be the best of both worlds! What do you think?

I rarely use my laptop as a laptop, instead of just plugging a keyboard and monitor and everything into it. But I have used a touchbar a bit, and I like the context-sensitivity. I do like having a physical ESC key. I think I've only used the touch bar maybe once or twice. If I were to get a new MacBook Pro, I'd miss being able to run a regular version of Windows in a VM using VMWare Fusion since I'd need an ARM version of Windows and that's not available to the general public.

The Touch Bar, in my opinion, is more of a novelty than a productivity tool. When I first got my MacBook, it was fun to play around with and watch the interface change (or not change) for each different application I would open. Also, it was handy in making my brother feel jealous that I have more updated technology than he does - but that's kind of it. The only reason people really think it's cool is because it's whatever is current, rather than its usefulness. I mean, it's cool because I can flex that I have a Touch Bar, but beyond that I don't really use it except for Safari & Preview.

All new Apple devices with ports would like to see Thunderbolt 4/USB4. Already seeing cables come out that are Thunderbolt 4/USB4 that of course will work with everything that has this type of connector no matter what the level of standard it is using. "One port/cable to rules them all ! ! !". If everything is built to this standard it will drive prices down, and guess what we can all move forward. Lets see can buy a device that has USB 2 port(s), or USB4 port(s) for same price. Somewhat becomes a no brainer.

Whether it was the disk drive, the cd drive, or Touch ID on the iPhone, I don’t think they’ve ever brought an old technology back. I hate it when people trash the Touch Bar because it’s not physical. Apple can half fix this if they put a Taptic Engine on the Touch Bar.

Yep I had a lab top ripped off a table was playing DND with some friends and the only open spot was in the walk way and the 10 year old knocked it down. Luckily only the CD drive was busted and it had been years since I had used it.

1:55 The keynote where they talked about keyboard instability was like music to my ears. I always hated the “wiggle” in laptop keyboards.

Great episode. I'll tell you the thing that I think really made this past Macbook Pro series the worst ever ... The inability to upgrade ANYTHING. No new hard drive, no new RAM. Essentially, what you buy is what you get and 2 years ahead you need more RAM, well we have a deal for you! Buy a fricking brand new computer ... And pay double what PC users usually pay. But that's the one feature that they'll never give us back. Ugh.

as a repair tech in a small shop, DC jacks are a common repair on the PC side of things. It's a rare day to see a magsafe unit have the charging port come in for any failure other than being fried from an incorrect adapter.

I'd like to see them bring back the lighted Apple logo on the outside.

6:42 oh it did happen to me haha We were watching a movie on netflix with some friends, laptop was placed under the TV, connected so the wall outlet a few feet away. A friend gets up, starts walking, and the apocalypse happened. It was an old 10yo laptop and it survived, but i certainly got scared lol

    I really hope they don't remove USB-C charging. I don't think I'm willing to buy anything that doesn't charge from USB-C. That's why I don't have AirPods.
