Rare Macintosh TV - Failing with Style - Krazy Ken's Tech Talk
Sains & Teknologi
The Macintosh TV is another rare gem from the Apple world which has earned its title as a collector's item. But why didn't it succeed when it was originally released? (Hey, it still looks good in black. At least it failed with style.)

@Computer Clan Hey Ken, i think if you returned to the Powermac G5 (watercooled) it would make good content! Since its hard to get to power supply you could have a collab with someone.

@Computer Clan Hello Ken:-), I know;-) but you get "my point",right? I wish you a great weekend :-). PS:Thank you for your videos, they give my joy and entertainment:-)
Hey Ken, I thought I'd let you know you're pretty cool
I honestly had thought of buying the Mac TV option but was turned off by the price. I bought a Performa 405 instead and maxed out the memory to 10GB. With RamDoubler installed, the effective RAM was 20GB and I didn’t sacrifice any HD space for virtual memory. Great video.
the blackintosh
You’re like a less obnoxious version of Snazzy Labs. Keep up the good work.
Looks horrendous tbh
İ do not think origina macontosh was called whitintosh
was that imac 2007 or 2009 with big sur?
I see a white Mac and I want to paint it black...
This computer seems like a hodgepodge of hot garbage.
It looked a nice product for the 90's era. Too bad it didn't make it commercially. P.S.: I think you are the first American that I hear, who can do pronounce correct the first "X" letter on a greek name!
im watching this on my homemade PC
blackintosch seems racist
1:38 Now available at McDonalds.
This Mac has the same cpu as the Atari Falcon; a low end 1992 home computer costing $500. Let that sink in.
yo i just got an ad of some shit called "blkpods", can u do a video on 'em? i think it's sketch AF
Yall are mean... I remember when I expressed my opinions about windows 10 being trash and you guys replied to my comment and beraded me 😬

My plasma tv is 16 bit coler .....O.O. Ffff

Can you look at a new revolutionary device Multivoltz? Big companies don’t want us to know about it. It is created by an engineer who was so pissed of the swindle in cell phone battery business that he instantly quitted his job and invented Multivoltz, which will charge our phone in 15 minutes AND REPAIR THE BATTERY AT THE SAME TIME. Ads offer huge saving which will end TOMORROW.
Non-beige Macs definitely aren't a dime a dozen. Black especially is pretty amazing for something from 92-93ish.
Try connecting a modern thing to it
I may have found a new product for your review. The GoAxil GS Extreme earbuds.
imho the mac tv is the predecessor to the apple tv
I paid some guy on the corner of street named Krazy Ken to talk about this computer, wasn't that you?
I used to have that old plug n play game thing and now that’s all I want to play 😂
And then jobs said let's do an iMac and they use this base
As a now-retired teacher, I had several of the LC-520's in my classroom They worked well for what they were used for. Funny that mine had a TV tuner in it. Yes, it was limited but for a few years, it was a great desktop to use.
Omg omg omg, a black telly. 🤪
6:58 a rarity these days
My PowerMac 5500 is in storage - it's an Australian 'Director's Edition' marked black 5500, the descendant of this Mac.
I love you Ken. But you have the face of the forever alone guy IRL. I can’t unsee it ❤️
For your next scam video 2 words: dvd rewinder
7:36 thats some dope b-roll
Wow
5:42 Nice....!
I could think of a worse name for a black mac
90's Macs were coasting on 80's Apple design.
I can't believe Apple was boring back then.
Macintosh Megazord! O.0

Can you make a review on the fitswatch smartwatch and those wireless Bluetooth earphones
Dang they really took the Xbox One route
I have 10 Macs so far, an iMac G3 a eMac and a few more. #MARCHintosh
actually, the powerbook 100 was the first black Mac in the market.
I was willing to bet you've seen Veritasium's video -W"why we can't have nice things" Beacuse of that lightbulb background. I would have been wrong as your video is about 2 days earlier.
Macintosh TV without Apple TV+? That's utter nonsense.
Fun stuff! I actually got a black Macintosh Performa 5400 with a built in TV tuner (the remote is a little less big though), from my former Arts teacher in high school. On that one it is actually possible to watch TV while still using the computer, much like the interface you showed on the 20th anniversary Mac. I believe it runs System 7.5 (possibly had a lower version out of the box?), and as far as I know these things were pretty much only sold in Europe.
There was no excuse for making the MacTV such a terrible computer when Apple has much better ones at the same time. 'Course they made quite a number of crappy ones with hardware hobbled in various stupid ways to "protect" sales of their high end models. When WalMart parked an LC-II beside a contempary Packard Bell PC, and it was obvious to see the "Packaged Hell" box was far faster and could be upgraded to have more RAM and a better video card, *that* hurt Mac sales far more than if the LC-II (or LC or II-vx or other "road apples") had been built without the deliberate crippling. Then there was the design defect in the NuBus PowerMac series that had a negative effect when using a NuBus SCSI controller. It was partially fixed in the 110Mhz models but still left them completely incompatible with a NuBus SCSI controller when some other expensive gear like a Media 100 video capture and editing system was installed. What was even worse about that flaw was it was duplicated in the NuBus PPC clones. Why didn't Apple, upon discovering that problem, go "Well we can't ship that! We're going to fix it 100% so that the PowerMac line will be even better.". Nope! It was "It mostly works, ship it!" Thus to be able to capture 150K per frame video with a NuBus PPC and Media 100, which requires at least 4 megabyte per second write speed, one must setup at least a 4 drive RAID 0 array split across both the internal only and the internal/external SCSI buses. I used FWB Hard Disk Toolkit to do the software RAID setup. It would have been soooo much better to be able to use an FWB Hammer or an ATTO NuBus wide SCSI card.
I hope you enjoy the video 🙂
I thought the Macintosh TV looked cool at the time, something different compared to the all those beige machines, it was shame it was so under-powered. A bit like the Commodore CDTV, who were also trying to converge the computer and AV markets, another black box which was under-powered and under appreciated.
S, Apple's history of making expensive crap is longer than I thought.
Dope, I want one
Thank you for creating excellent content worthy of a sub, The camera zooming through the case was a really cool touch
5:41 the TV is tuned at channel 69 nice
Were they hoping that students would squint and think it was a new NeXT workstation?
This was a beautifully edited video!

Thank you : ) I hope you enjoy the other Tech Talk episodes, too! I try to make 'em as pretty as possible.
i just realised i didn't see any video of you this week, so i clicked on your channel and there was the video, i didn't get a notification, i'm happy i can see this video still, maybe there's a bug, anyone having the same problem here?

Do you have the notifications set to "all"? If not, IDdown will not send you a notification for every video of ours. Try setting the bell to "all." If that still doesn't work, try unsubscribing and then re-resubscribing, and then set the bell to "all." Thanks for watching! 🔔
am i the only one with the Stones Song in my Head right now ? BTW i had one of he 5000 Series Mac´s with a TV Card in it was pretty cool at its Time :D
That was the era when all kinds of companies tried "web tv" or "computer tv" concepts, trying to increase personal/home pc sales. Mac was just trying to keep in on the trends.

That was our first family computer ever (in beige). I saw this black model on eBay for $50 in the mid 2000s on eBay. I wanted it so bad but I was just a kid with no money
the blackintosh can print n-word passes for you

Boi has a big head! And apparently a big brain too!
Is this the first Jet Black color in the entire Apple products?
#MARCHintosh!
I always wanted this Mac as a kid. My mom wouldn’t even entertain the idea. She wasn’t wrong, but I still love the aesthetic.
7:02 This Mac $#!^ with Mac os 7.1
Lol, when computers where trying to "catch up" with the market they would eventually take over. Reminds me of Windows Media Center with its tv tuner (aka the birth of Metro UI). Media center extender allowed us to stream stuff to our xbox... back in my days we had to download a plugin to open MKV files and another one if it had AC3 audio, now it's all integrated in whatever OS we use.
WOW that front row graphic took me back

Everything from Apple in the 90s before the return of Steve was a failure
I can finally be racist with old macintoshes 😎
Marketed to college students, for $2000? The 90s were very different times indeed.
Awesome video Ken! I had no idea that the unit was so interesting- And slow!

Commenting for the algorithm
Back then, the TV Tuner was probably a central selling point, nowadays it's just a special mention if it's present at all.
If it can run OS 8 or 9, you can browse the web using Classila.
5:41 Nice
Install the latest apple operating system on a really old apple pc!
You should connect an Apple TV to the Macintosh TV

Our family got our first Mac in 1996, a Performa 6320CD. It had the TV tuner and RCA jacks - even a S-Video port. The remote was slightly different. It did all the same things, though including the screenshot, and background audio. I thought it was the coolest thing ever.
I think we can consider this the spiritual predecessor to the Apple TV of today, no?
Damn, 7 seconds in, almost spat out my coffee when you said exactly what I thought you were going to say! HAHAHA
Should have done it in may. Called it maykentosh.
My first PC (in 1997, I was a die-hard Commodore kid before that!) was a Toshiba Infinia. Got it when I was heading to college. They did integrated TV right. P200MMX which wasn't the fastest at the time but it was enough, an amazing PCI TV/FM tuner that didn't tax the CPU.. It could DMA directly to the on-board video (and you could put TV in a window!) The best parts of that machine were 17" monitor with decent speakers and an LCD control panel with remote that was actually the first USB device to ever be included with a PC. I kept that monitor, tuner card, and control panel through many PC upgrades, modifying the drivers to work with Win 98 and ME when they came out. Oh, and it was all matte black. Sadly you could not stick a different motherboard in the Toshiba tower case, the AGP slot was blocked.
Hold up, is that iMac from 2008-09 running Big Sur? WTH HOW

I thought this is racist Macintosh
Then there is Amiga taking live NTSC video on a 7 MHz 68000 through a cheap genlock while running other programs at the same time. :-) But the Mac is no Amiga. lol
My WebTV was better!
