You could also try Toshiba/Kixoia SSD's! BTW Apple wants too move to kixoia SSD's due too their super small form-factor and great reliability in the future ARM based Macs especially Macbooks and iPads! Microsoft already uses Kixoia in all Surface Products!

Best SSD's for Mac are Samsung, Micron & Intel (Which is made by Micron and based off Micron basic designs anyway!) I hear SeaGate is really good too!

Backblaze is good! Sometimes my computers would stop working in the past, but I'd be able to recover the files from my backup. One thing to note about Backblaze is that they won't backup certain file types, and for some reason, won't let you remove them from the list in the program, which to me is bad design. If you want to back up those file formats, you'll have to rename them or shove them into a zipped file...

I've used Samsung nvme without any issue in a number of mbp. If your 2013 unit has the discreet gpu, then I can say 100% that it will work just fine. Can't remember the exact model, but if you are interested, just ask and I'll email my client for the specs.

Can confirm this is due to an issue caused by an error with boot camp assistant that transferred over with your backup. Not entirely sure exactly the error but it’s 100% due to the bootcamp assistant being used

Maybe you can make a test for iphones 12, 12Pro on data transfer speeds. I mean did you ever checked how much time it takes to transfer movies like 2GB footage filmed from iphone to mac using wifi or the lightning adapter... compared to real usb3...

Josh Estoesta I thought it was an older mbp. An air will have an apu. If it is still under warranty, take it in asap. If not, clone the drive with ccc and fresh reinstall. You may have to force a firmware update if the fresh install doesn't work. Good luck.

SSD - I have had several Replacements with the OWC Aura 2TB and in the End they shipped me an Aura Pro X2 and I did the Terminal Command - because the missing Deep Sleep drains the Battery faster, so over night, I have to keep the Power Supply attached otherwise the Battery is either way down or drained to 0% (!) even with a new Battery placed into my 2014 MBP with 16inch Screen. Waiting for a new 11th Gen. Intel MacBookPro since I want to still run Windows VMs - since Tim Cook has noted that they still have some Intel Machines in the Pipeline - OR DON'T THEY ? And all new Machines this year will be Apple Silicon only...

Hey ! I just wanna let you know about the issue you got with the Time Machine backup and the Mojave recovery partition. macOS Big Sur's Time Machine backups are in APFS, and not in OS X Journaled. That also means you can't use this drive on older versions as 11.1, even when you try to show the files in the Finder (the drive shows up, but the fils are not here.). But, if you restore a macOS Catalina Time Machine backup in Big Sur, it will automatically convert to APFS. So, tip for next time, use a different external SSD to Time Machine Catalina and Big Sur :)

Windows user here.... 20 minutes for an OS install when you have an SSD?? ...I am confused O.o;; Last time I did windows 10 install the whole process from boot to install and login was... Maybe 7 minutes? But I was using a Usb 3.1 USB stick to an SSD m.2 drive but.... Isntbtaht the same here?

The problem you ran into is that in Mac OS versions prior to Big Sur, the NVMe driver for the Late 2013 Macbook Pro is improperly packed into the Boot ROM (firmware). It doesn't reload properly after hibernation, and the machine crashes. The fix is to update to Big Sur, or more specifically, to apply the firmware upgrade from Big Sur. However, and this is a case of Apple being Apple, the computer will not flash a new Boot ROM with a third party SSD installed. The fix is to reinstall the original SSD, flash the firmware, and then go back to the third party SSD... which is pretty much exactly what this video is, except for the last part. In the course of downgrading to the original SSD, you fixed the problem. If you reinstall the OWC drive at this point, you won't have any sleep issues.

I thought it would be the SSD.... I was surprised to learn myself that these 3rd party SSDs were playing no better than M.2s with adapters in the sleep/wake department. I thought these had been given the special firmware that would make it fully compatible, apparently not :/

honestly, reminds me of the issue when my computer kept crashing on me when i so much as bumped it. turns out i didn't tighten the screws enough.

Were those screws for the drive? If they were for the drive and it's a 2.5" one the sata port isn't holding it as good as it should, my laptop has no screws in it for its 2.5" western digital 500GB 7200RPM slim HDD but the port holds it good enough that it doesn't need them

Hey! I have the same problem on not NVMe ssd - SATA Samsung 860 Pro in MBP mid 2012.

This is not only OWC that got these kind of issue…

I think the Time Machine drive creates his own recovery partition on it, So I think you could've just booted from the Time Machine drive (with the option key pressed at boot) and have it restore from there. Not sure

i put a crucial P1 1TB into my 13" late 2013 pro with the QNINE adapter and it works perfectly fine. i had this issue too but only with the original drive and only in catalina

check for firmware updates for both your ssd and your mac. those fixes are usually meant for situations like these and compatibility

You could use the old drive, or you could do the poor people’s way and get an $8 adapter from Amazon and use a m.2?
